February in Review

These are a few of my favorite 'first' lines read in February 2009.

"Boys," said Sam, "you've been bamboozled."

"There was a moment not long ago when I thought, "This is it. I'm dead."

'Dunderhead!' 'Clodpole!' 'Ninnyhammer!' 'Booby!' 'Nitwit!'

"Imagine my surprise when, after three centuries of fighting with siblings over a spare furry teat and licking my water from a bowl, I was given a huge human nipple, all to myself, filled with warm mother's milk."

Sweet on finishing Miguel de Cervantes! Congrats on that accomplishment!

Funnily enough, I was reading a book (Dust by Arthur Slade) today and there is one scene where the main characters uncle is talking to the 11-year-old main character. Not a direct quote, but:

Uncle: Hey, Don Quixote

Main Character thinking: Why was his uncle calling him Don Coyote?

You read a lot of good books this month! Happy Reading!

Cervantes! Oh, I am impressed. Ours is in Spanish here, a relic from my husband's Salvadoran childhood. I often feel guilty for knowing all the words to the Man of La Mancha soundtrack, but not having read the book itself. Congrats.
