Sad news indeed

If you've been part of the bloggy community for long, you couldn't have missed what a big part Dewey played in it all. The creator of the 24 Hour Readathon, the creator of the Bookworms Carnival, the creator of Weekly Geeks. The host of a handful of challenges including the Printz and Graphic Novels. (Just to name a few.) She was almost always having a giveaway as well. It's no wonder her blog site was such a success, a true testament to her hard work and energy. She was a friendly sort of person, as well, always visiting others in the community--always leaving comments wherever she went. She was the common denominator of us all.

You've probably heard by now, but Dewey died last week. Her husband posted the news this morning. I'm still a bit shocked. It definitely hasn't sunk in yet. She was such a vital part of the community, she will be missed--actively missed--for many many years to come. How could anyone who "knew" her--even though it was just through online activities--ever forget her?

We won't be forgetting her anytime soon, that's for sure.

I really can't believe that she passed away. It's amazing how much you can grow to care about someone you've never met

Chris is right. We are a community though most of us have never met physically.

I think Dewey has really touched the heart of this community - and she will not be forgotten. What a shock...Things like this make me even more aware of the ways in which we can impact each others' lives. Dewey was one of those people who shone her light on others...she will be missed.

I just saw this on nymeths blog too and am so shocked. I will really miss her. This year was my first read-a-thon and I loved it. I also loved the Graphic Novel Challenge and was hoping it would run again. She was so friendly and helpful, it's just so strange knowing she isn't around anymore. My heart goes out to her family at this time.

Lovely tribute, Becky. I think your idea is a good one, though I wonder if we could something a bit more and create a blog that's in her memory, so that those who want to can leave their memories, and invite her husband James and son to read it? I guess kind of an online memory book for them. Because we each know how Dewey meant to us, but it might comfort them eventually to be able to come and read how many lives she touched. What do you think?
