2007 Boston Globe-Horn Book Awards Announced

Just wanted to let everyone know that the 2007 Boston Globe-Horn Book Awards have just been announced. The big winner? The Astonishing Life of Octavian Nothing by M.T. Anderson. (Yuck. Yuck. Yuck. As if Octavian didn't have a big enough ego already????) The other winners in the picture book and nonfiction categories I have never heard of before today: Dog and Bear: Two Friends, Three Stories by Laura Vaccaro Seeger and The Strongest Man in the World: Louis Cyr by Nicolas Debon. Honor books include Clementine by Sara Pennypacker (so so happy she was recognized) and Rex Zero and the End of the World by Tim Wynne-Jones in the fiction category; 365 Penguins by Jean-Luc Fromental and Wolves by Emily Gravett in the picture book category; Tracking Trash: Flotsam, Jetsam, and the Science of Ocean Motion by Loree Griffin Burns and Escape by Sid Fleischman in the nonfiction category.

On a completely random note, I just noticed that one of the judges, the chair of the awards, Betty Carter taught my first Library Science course, Intro to Children's Literature.
